Step Functions

BUSINESS TRANSFORMATION · SYSTEMS · FINANCE · APPLIED AI

Cost, speed and quality —
improved at the same time.

Most improvement is incremental: a slope. The changes that matter are step functions —
designed from how your business actually operates, not from a template or a tool.

The Approach

Real transformation runs on people, process and technology —
most initiatives start and end with technology.

AI is a case in point. Applied to a broken process, it automates the mess faster. Applied to disengaged people, it becomes shelfware. The sequence matters:

STEP 1

Perspective

See the business as a whole system first. Where does value actually flow — and where does it leak?

STEP 2

Intention

Decide deliberately what needs to be true. Choices about people, process and technology — made in the open, with trade-offs on the table.

STEP 3

Execution

Only then act — with tools fitted to the design, and change management that makes it stick.

Jumping straight to Step 3 — "let's use AI" — is how efficiency programs burn money and goodwill.

Background

The discipline to work in the right order — and the practitioner's hands to make it real.

Industrial Engineering foundation

Systems thinking, process design and optimization — the discipline of improving how work flows end-to-end, before deciding what to improve or automate.

Applied AI, as a practitioner

I run my own practice on AI-augmented workflows daily — analysis, process design, content and tool building. I don't sell licenses or complex implementations. What I bring is perspective: where tools like AI genuinely multiply a team's output — and where a simpler, more relevant solution is the better choice.

How I Work

Practitioner

I've done the work, not just advised on it. Every engagement empowers the team with the process, tools and skills — not a dependency on me.

Problem Solver

Diagnose before prescribing. The first question is never "which tool" — it's "where does value leak, and why."

Collaborator

The best answers come from the people closest to the work. I map, design and build with teams — completeness over perfection, whole-picture drafts that leaders can react to.
